Instructions

  • To make the sauce: melt the coconut oil in a saucepan over medium heat, then add the garlic and onion.
    ¼ cup minced onion, 2 tbsp. coconut oil, 1 garlic clove
  • Cook until soft and fragrant; add all the remaining ingredients, season to taste with additional pepper and sea salt, stirring everything together.
    Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, 4 oz. tomato sauce, ½ cup homemade ketchup, ¼ cup apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice, 2 tbsp. chili powder, ½ tsp. cumin, 2 tbsp. raw honey, ⅛ cup freshly ground black pepper + more to taste
  • Bring to a soft boil, lower heat, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until sauce thickens.
  • Let the sauce cool down while preparing the beef skewers.
  • Thread the beef, bell pepper, and onion alternately on the skewers.
    1 to 2 lbs. sirloin steak, 2 bell peppers, 1 onion, Wood or metal skewers
  • Brush generously with the sauce and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 8 hours (optional). If you want to save some sauce to serve, divide it in half so it isn't in contact with the raw steak.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  • Grill the skewers for 2 to 3 minutes per side or to desired doneness.
  • Let cool for 2 to 3 minutes, adjust seasoning to taste, and serve with extra barbecue sauce.
