Barbecue sauce and berries are two great tastes that taste great together – and if you can’t decide what kind of berries you want, why not go for them all?

I used a mix of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries, but you can pick whatever you like, either fresh or frozen. Blend them right on into a basic smoky-sweet BBQ sauce, and you’re left with the perfect topping for a big rack of ribs.

Ribs With Mixed Berry BBQ Sauce

Making the BBQ sauce yourself is a little more labor-intensive than just pulling it off the shelf, but don’t be intimidated by the long list of ingredients.

Once you get down the directions, you’ll see that you basically have to put it all in a pot and stir – it’s not complicated, even with a lot of different things.

These ribs can be done either completely in the oven or mostly in the oven and with a dramatic finish on the grill for char marks and crispy outside.

It’s not terribly fast, but it is pretty low-effort; you could start it mid-afternoon and not really think about it until dinner. But dinner will sure be impressive anyway: be prepared for these ribs to disappear fast!

    2. Season the ribs with garlic powder, paprika, sea salt, and ground black pepper to taste.

    5. Bake in the oven for 2 ½ hours to 3 hours.
    6. While the ribs are cooking, melt some cooking fat in a saucepan.
    7. Add the onion and garlic to the saucepan and cook until soft.
