    Pork Stew with Turnips

Pork is an excellent addition to a paleo diet. it has a sweet but salty flavor and pairs well with many flavors. This recipe includes marinating the meat for more flavor and tenderization, ensuring it is foolproof.

You'll love the addition of warm flavors from cumin, cinnamon, and cardamom, but the cocoa powder addition is surprisingly tasty. These flavors pair with chipotle peppers for the ideal paleo meal.

This stew is perfectly served alongside paleo bread but is delicious all by itself.

    Ingredients

Serves: 4 Prep Time: 25 minutes Rest Time: 1 hour Cook Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

    • 2 lbs pork shoulder
    • 2 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
    • 1 onion
    • 2 cloves garlic
    • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
    • ¼ cup chipotle chiles
    • 1 sweet potato
    • 1 turnip
    • 3 tablespoon cooking fat
    • Salt and black pepper
    • Fresh cilantro

How to Make Special Pork Stew

First, you will marinate the pork. Cut it into cubes and place them in a bowl with the vinegar. Ross to coat and let it stand for 15 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 1 hour.

    Preheat your oven to 350°F

After the pork has marinaded you will season it with salt and black pepper. I usually add around 1 teaspoon salt and ½ teaspoon pepper, but you can add more or less to taste.

Then, over medium heat, melt the cooking fat in a Dutch oven. Brown the pork pieces for 3 to 4 minutes, until golden. These do not have to be cooked through. Remove from the pan and set aside.

In the same pan, add the onion and garlic. Cook this for 3 to 4 minutes, until the onion has softened.

To this, add the cocoa powder, cumin, cinnamon, cardamom, and chipotle pepper. Cook until it is fragrant, about 1 minute. Then, add the pork back to the pot with the turnips and sweet potatoes. Add enough water to cover everything and stir to combine.

Place into the oven and cook for 1 hour 30 minutes or until the pork has tenderized and is cooked through.

Season to taste if needed, and then serve topped with fresh chopped cilantro.
