    Slow Cooked Beef Tongue

Slow cooked beef tongue offers a matchless melding of tradition, flavor, and nutrition that speaks to modern epicures and those seeking a healthier, more connected lifestyle. By slow cooking this cut, you unlock a rich tapestry of taste and a nod to cultural significance that continues to resonate deeply.

The rich, savory nature of beef tongue is complemented by side dishes that provide a textural and flavor contrast. Consider Balsamic Roasted Carrots and Green Beans, a Broccoli and Grape Salad, or a warm slice of Paleo or Keto Bread to soak up any delicious sauces.

    Ingredients

Serves: 4 Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 3 hours

    • 1 beef tongue
    • 2 onions, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 Jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
    • A pinch of red pepper flakes
    • 4 whole peppercorns
    • 1 bay leaf
    • Chicken or beef stock to cover
    • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

How to Make Slow Cooked Beef Tongue

Place the beef tongue along with the onions, garlic, Jalapeno pepper, red pepper flakes, peppercorns and bay leaf in a pot or dutch oven.

Pour in enough of the stock to cover the tongue completely and season to taste with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and simmer, covered for about 3 hours, until very tender.

Remove the tongue from the liquid and let cool until it can be handled while keeping the liquid on a low heat so it stays hot.

Once cool enough, peel the skin off the tongue, slice and serve with the hot liquid.
