You are craving Paleo BBQ sauce, so what do you do? Gather the wholesome ingredients, get in the kitchen and start cooking, because no one can make it exactly like you - and that's a good thing.

When you cook at home, you can make your BBQ sauce refined sugar and corn syrup free, and you can serve it as chunky, saucy or as spicy as your family likes.

    BBQ Chicken Kebabs

In this Paleo BBQ sauce, you can choose either raw honey or maple syrup as a sweetener, depending on your preference or what you have on hand. In our opinion, they both taste amazing, try it one way now, and the next time you grill kebabs or bake BBQ chicken wings, then go with the other.

When you experiment, you can adjust the seasonings: add coconut aminos, up the heat with chopped jalapeños or toss in a few more cloves of garlic; at the same time, you can avoid the many food additives that make otherwise healthy food questionable.

You'll want to add some green to your plate and the perfect salad to match this dish is a pear salad with a honey and citrus vinaigrette.

It is delightfully colorful with fresh bites of grapes, pear, cucumber, tomato, and a bit of zest. If you have leftover BBQ sauce (hint: make a double batch!), you may find yourself drizzling a bit over the salad as well.

    Preparation

    1. If making the BBQ sauce, melt the cooking fat over medium heat in a saucepan. Add the onion and garlic and cook until soft.
    2. Add all the remaining ingredients to the sauce and cook for 12 to 15 minutes. Pulse until smooth using an immersion blender.
    3. For the skewers: in a bowl, combine the chicken, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and dried oregano. Season to taste and toss until chicken is well coated.
    4. Thread the cubed chicken onto the skewers.
    5. Generously brush the skewers with the BBQ sauce if using.
    6. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
    7. Grill the chicken, and skewers for 8 to 10 minutes, rotating every 2 to 3 minutes and brushing with bbq sauce every time.
