    Classic Creamy Coleslaw

Coleslaw, sometimes referred to as slaw, has a rich history dating back to the ancient Romans who favored cabbage. Variants of the dish are found in cuisines as diverse as the Americas, Indonesia, and Korea. In the 18th century, the Dutch brought coleslaw to the New World, where it underwent further evolution with the addition of new ingredients such as carrots and mayonnaise.

Today, coleslaw has become a staple in American cuisine, often accompanying hearty barbecue meats, fried chicken, or sandwiches. It’s a nostalgic taste for many, reminding us of family picnics and summer gatherings.

Coleslaw is an excellent partner for a wide spectrum of dishes. Its creamy, crisp texture and refreshing bite serve as a complement to Barbecued Pork Tenderloins or even as a topping for Fish Tacos.

Serves: 8 Prep Time: 10 minutes

    • 1 head red or green cabbage, finely shredded
    • 2 large carrots, finely shredded
    • 1 cup homemade mayonnaise
    • 2 tablespoon grated onion
    • 2 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
    • sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
