Sometimes the best recipes are the ones with the simplest concepts: take something that tastes good, rub it on the meat, and stick it over a fire until it’s cooked. We’ve been doing that since we were literally cavemen; it was delicious then, and it’s still delicious now.
In this recipe, the “something that tastes good” is a blend of garlic, thyme, and smoked paprika. It’s not fancy, but it gives you a lot of flavor without a lot of work, and it’s especially great with the smokiness that the barbecue already provides.
Smoked paprika isn’t the same thing as regular paprika; it has a much deeper and more intense flavor. If you’ve never had it, it’s worth getting some to experiment with and see what other recipes you might like it in.
You can also brush the tenderloin with homemade BBQ sauce after cooking it if you like, or leave it out if the spice rub had enough flavor for you.
If you wanted to go really hunger-gatherer with the whole experience, you could pull up some dandelion greens for a salad – or gather something leafy from the produce aisle and enjoy your meal!
