    Blackened Tilapia

Tilapia, with its mild, flaky white flesh, is a culinary star renowned for its versatility. It takes well to a myriad of flavors and cooking methods, making it a staple in home kitchens and fine dining establishments globally. But it's the blackened preparation that has captured the hearts of many, elevating a humble fillet to sublime gastronomic heights.

Originating in Louisiana, blackening seasoning is a fiery blend of ground spices. The flavorful profile usually includes paprika, cayenne pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, oregano, and sometimes a touch of sugar for that alluring caramelization. This amalgamation isn't just about adding heat; it's a harmonious symphony that accentuates the natural taste of tilapia.

All you might need to turn this into a complete meal is a simple side salad with fresh or steamed greens or a broccoli salad with homemade mayonnaise.

    Ingredients

Serves: 4 Prep Time: 35 minutes Cook Time: 6 minutes

    • 1 lb tilapia fillets
    • Juice of 1 lemon, sliced into wedges
    • 3 tablespoon paprika
    • 1 tablespoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • ½ teaspoon celery seeds
    • A pinch of garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
    • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon sea salt
    • Cooking fat

    How to Make Blackened Tilapia

Combine the paprika, salt, onion powder, white pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, thyme, oregano and celery seeds in a bowl and mix well.

Coat the tilapia fillets in the spice mixture and set them aside at room temperature for 30 minutes in order for the spices to flavor the flesh.

Heat a large skillet over a medium-high heat and fry the tilapia fillets in some cooking fat for about 3 minutes per side, until just cooked through.

Serve with lemon wedges on the side.
