Steak Salad with Garlic-Herb Dressing Recipe

In this delicious salad recipe, you’ll be tossing together grilled steak with some of the tastiest summer vegetables, including asparagus, tomatoes, spinach, and avocado. After topping with a homemade garlic-herb dressing, you’ll be ready to serve this in under half an hour, making this perfect for a light dinner or for a weekend lunch at home. The gentle seasoning of the sirloin allows for a wonderful immersion between the steak and dressing – feel free to increase your dressing proportions if you really want to let your steak soak this up! Since we love making office lunches happen, this is also great as a make-ahead dish – just keep your dressing separate from your other ingredients until you’re ready to serve.

The most intensive part of this dish is making sure that you’ve cooked your steak correctly. To some, this might seem a bit intimidating – steak can be expensive, and over-cooking will result in a not-tasty experience for anyone. While there are a few different techniques that work well for cooking the perfect steak, there are some keys to keep in mind: Make sure you’re watching your steak and paying attention to visual “doneness” cues; know in advance your goal “doneness,” and, make sure to let your steak rest before cutting into strips.

Steak Salad With Garlic-Herb Dressing Recipe

  • 2 sirloin steaks
  • 2 tbsp. cooking oil
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Salad Ingredients

  • 10-15 spears fresh asparagus
  • 3 cups baby spinach
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved

Garlic-Herb Dressing Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 tsp. fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tsp. fresh parsley, chopped
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste


  1. Season the steak with oil, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Grill the steak in a hot griddle pan until cooked to your preference, about 5-7 minutes each side.
  3. When the steak is cooked, remove from the pan and allow to rest for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Grill the asparagus in the hot pan until just cooked.
  5. Slice the steak and place on a bed of baby spinach leaves.
  6. Add the grilled asparagus, avocado, and cherry tomatoes.
  7. Combine all the ingredients for the garlic-herb dressing and mix well.
  8. Pour the dressing over the salad and serve.
